About Unlikely Tangent Studios
We are producing bold XR work created by disabled creatives to stake our place in this industry
The idea for Unlikely Tangent Studios happened when Meg Fozzard (the founder) was asked if she knew any other disabled creatives working in XR, and she could only name a few.
Our mission is to not only produce XR work by disabled creatives but inspire and nurture disabled talent in this industry.
This organisation is born from the first collaboration between Meg Fozzard (Producer) and Amy Crighton (Director) on our VR project Cripping Up, which is about Meg’s daily challenges as a wheelchair user.
Meg and Amy met as participants during Accessing New Technologies in 2021, a scheme run by the Young Vic and Directors Sacha Wares and Rachel Bagshaw, aimed at encouraging disabled, D/deaf and/or neurodivergent creatives to embrace technologies like VR, AR and MR into their work
The name ‘Unlikely Tangent’ comes from Meg’s experience of becoming disabled in her mid 20s, right as her career should have been taking off. This event changed her life forever. The tangent she finds herself on now changed everything from career to friendships, and is not one she ever thought she would be following. Combining this with the way that Amy’s lifelong love of video games has influenced their work in theatre and storytelling, and has taken them down a path they never planned for.
